Lola: A Ghost Story Starts Haunting Cyberspace
9 January 2010 5:57 pm

“Torres and Or’s tale is the sort of quiet horror story that moves along simply, lulling you into false security, before twisting quickly in another direction right at the end,” says the first review of Lola: A Ghost Story from the School Library Journal.
Previews of the first 17 pages are also available online, in places like Comic Book Resources, Broken Frontier, and Major Spoilers.
It’s also been cited as one of the books to watch in 2010, by the Sunday Daily Inquirer, where it’s described as “a uniquely Filipino title.”
Excitement!

Hey Elbert.. Went to Midtown Comics(NYC)& made a beeline to your book "lola".. I have been wating for this book for a long time.. I have to say I love it!!
It was worth the wait.. You have this very hip yet retro (think 1950’s/60′ style spot adds & children’s books of the that era) look to it.. That was the main reason for me becuase I love mid-century design.. You are an amzing talent Elbert.. I wish you much sucsess with "Lola" & any future works..

Oh yeah.. I have been lookin’ at ya’ Blog for a while now.. I have a few questions for ya’..
How long did "Lola" take to do??
Did you work from the script in order?? what I mean is draw page one of the script to the last page or did you draw the pages out of order from the script??
Also I would love to see some pencils pages of "Lola" posted on your Blog, befoe you inked them..
And what kind of Pen/Marker/Brush do you use to ink ya’ pages??
Thanks..

I draw pages out of order. I start with key moments in the story first, then draw pages around that. And yes, I’ll be uploading some process pages over the next few days. Along with stories of why it took me almost two years to finish the book – stories involving pages lost to typhoons, getting sick in the middle of the book and so on.
